With the current consensus of global warming being caused by human behaviour it has created a demand by the public for engineers to produce enviornmentally friendly products and services. With this in mind Renewable Energy Systems & The Environment offered me a chance to gain an understanding of renewable energy systems and how these might be able to assist me with my current engineering role and future career.

In my personal time I enjoy playing regular football as I acknowledge the importance of fitness and a well balanced lifestyle, furthermore football offers the opportunity to participate in a team as well as freeing my competitive spirit. I also enjoy learning, socialising with friends and relaxing.

Renewable Energy Sources have become of particular interest to me as I believe that if mankind does not change our course climate change will affect the whole world to a devastating degree. The technology currently available is not able to solve this but with as much resource as possible focused on research and development this area should produce great results. I would like to be a part of this and with the understanding I have gained so far I see many opportunities for a Design Engineer to be of use.

I take part in running, mountain biking, snowboarding, SCUBA diving, rock climbing and hill walking. I enjoy sports where I can appreciate the natural world at the same time as exercising. I also enjoy cooking, spending time with friends and travelling when I can find the time.

Energy is one of the biggest global challenges for the coming decades and environmental issues including water management or energy supply are some of my topics of interest. I chose to study the MSc Renewable Energy Systems and the Environment to extend my knowledge in the field of Energy engineering ; this course offers a complete cover of the subject and provides both theoritical and practical approaches. With this particular project I have deepened my understanding of building utilities and I learnt more specifically about the energy supply technologies suitable to hospital facilities.
